Helping Hands Program

Our Helping Hands Volunteers work on small projects which are typically are done on a Saturday. Our projects include everything from yard cleanup to remodeling a room. We try to do about one project every other month. We would like for you to volunteer even if you are only interested in helping on one project. Special skills are not required.

Our Helping Hands program provides a helping hand to seniors, the physically disabled, and low-income homeowners by performing small home repair and home improvement projects. The homeowner is responsible for providing the materials and the Helping Hands program will provide the labor and construction expertise.  In some cases, grants and other financial means are available to assist with the cost of the materials.

Ideal projects for our program include:

  • Yard Cleanup
  • Small home repair projects
  • Painting

Projects that don't fit well within our program include:

  • Roof repair, leaks, or structural projects
  • Projects that cannot be completed in a day
  • Beautification projects, such as installing a new floor just to improve the room's appearance
  • Projects requiring building permits or home owners association approval

The program works as follows:

  1. An application is submitted and reviewed.  Applications are reviewed to determine the needs of the applicant and scope of the project.  If the application fits within our program, the applicant will be contacted for a site visit.
  2. A Helping Hands volunteer will visit the site, determine the resource requirements, and prepare a statement of work.
  3. The application and statement of work will be submitted to the Board for review.  Because of the volume of applications, only some of the projects are able to be approved even if they meet the overall requirements of the program.
  4. If approved the Applicant will be contacted and the project scheduling will begin.
