The Team

Diversity of people, time, and talent is the hallmark of Habitat volunteers. The months ahead are full of challenges. From fundraising to public relations to construction planning to the actual build, an extraordinary amount of help is needed. Every effort, by every person, will make the Habitat Way Project a success.

In addition to donations of money and materials, volunteer assistance is essential. New team members and new ideas are welcome. Consider helping out on one of the following teams:

Family Selection Team – Selects families to live in Habitat houses. The team manages the selection process which can take as long as six months. They evaluate applicant families on the basis of their need for adequate shelter, ability to pay, and willingness to partner with Habitat. In addition to evaluating the standard credit and financial information required of all homebuyers, the team also conducts visits to the homes of applicant families.

Family Support Team – Forms the backbone of the relationship between the Partner Families (existing & future Habitat homeowners) and the affiliate. This team plays an integral part in accomplishing Habitat’s vision of developing & uplifting families. They are the primary liaison between the affiliate and its families. They facilitate homeowner training and help families understand their homeowner duties. The team also helps the affiliate to learn from the families, and use this knowledge to improve its program to better serve their needs.

Construction Team – Plans, coordinates, and oversees new construction and rehabilitation projects - large and small. Team members interface with designers, suppliers, engineers, city planners, subcontractors and individuals/organizations playing a role in the build. The team obtains permits; prepares construction schedules and materials lists; manages procurement of materials; interfaces with municipalities and regulatory officials; and oversees the work of subcontractors & volunteers.

Fundraising Team – Develops fundraising ideas; and plans, coordinates, & administers special events and campaigns. Team members combine creativity, planning, and event management skills to raise funds for Habitat houses. They also coordinate corporate sponsorship of events, and donor relations and recognition. This team serves a dual purpose. In addition to managing affiliate fundraising processes, its activities also raise community awareness of the Habitat mission.

Public Relations Team – Helps to get the word out about Habitat’s mission and activities. Team members focus on areas such as media interface; involvement in local chambers of commerce and other organizations; participation in community events; speaking to local groups and church congregations; creating marketing and presentation materials; and maintaining the web site & publishing the newsletter.

Administration Team – Assists with a myriad of administrative tasks ranging from clerical support, answering phones, updating materials, and doing research - to coordinating events and activities.

Board of Directors - Our local affiliate has only two paid employee, an Executive Director and a part-time Executive Assistant. All other functions are performed by volunteers. The Board of Directors has grown to 22 and represents a wide variety of experience and talent. These members include:
